Paul Lanigan Sandler Training
Early this wednesday morning I was walking the short distance from my hotel in midtown manhattan to Penn Station, a trek of no more than 10 minutes. As I reached the corner of 34th and 7th the scene in front of me took my breath away. A crescent moon set against a blood red sky, stood proudly above the great Empire State building.
I had my camera gear with me but I was with someone else and I was reluctant to ask them to stop and wait while I got set up to compose and take the picture. I was conscious we had to catch a train and neither of us were sure how long to would take to get our tickets and find the right platform.
Within the space of 5 minutes we had our tickets and were seated in the waiting area. I couldn't sit still and I was comfortable that I had a few minutes spare, so I grabbed my camera bag and rushed out of the station and along 34th street to take the picture.
Too late.
The moon had faded and the blood red sky had turned to a pale blue. The experience of losing the shot reminded me of the many times I lost a sale because I didn't seize the moment.
All sales opportunities have a sell by date. Don't let yours rot because you were caught up in something else.
